What I Wore Wednesday: Red Dress Edition

This past weekend, some friends of ours invited us to a Red Dress charity event.  We love an excuse to get dressed up so we were happy to attend!  The only problem?  I didn't own a red dress.

I don't really spend a lot of money on clothes.  Not because I don't like to look cool/trendy/fill-in-the-buzz-word-here, but because I hate shopping for them.  My petite frame mixed with my pickiness makes for a frustrating combination when trying to pick out some new threads.

Aaaanyway, when I found out I needed a red dress, I hit the mall with a budget in my head of $50.  I walked out with two dresses, got Steven's opinion on both, and of course took back the one he liked better - ha!  Men tend to have a hard time visualizing an outfit, so I had to go with my gut on this one, and I'm so glad I did!

I hate that I didn't get a photo of the dress without the jacket because the back comes down in a V and the sides have a cool black inlay/color-blocked effect.  Bad blogger!  In my defense, we were running late and were trying to rush out the door!

I lovey love love the peplum trend (I actually bought a peplum shirt the same day I got this dress - my first two peplum items in the same day!).  I think it's cool and flattering, especially with the belt.

The best thing about this outfit, though, is that I got the dress, the jacket, and the little gold bag for... $34.  Total.

Score.

Earrings:  Target (already owned)
Dress:  JCPenney clearance rack - $14
Jacket:  TJMaxx - on sale for $10
Bag:  Kohl's - on clearance for $10
Shoes:  Shoe Dept (already owned)

We had a blast at the charity dinner.  All those red dresses in one room looked gorgeous!  After dinner, some dancing ensued, which was so fun it makes me wonder why we don't go dancing more often.  Is that a thing of the past?  I feel like we're too old for the club scene, yet too young for other dancing venues.  What's your favorite DJ dance song?  Do you love it when they play Journey or Bon Jovi, or are you into the current hits?  Personally, I'm a sucker for "Love Shack."  Oh, and we can't forget the Cupid Shuffle.  :)

I wouldn't have ever worn a blazer over a peplum dress. but it looks great. I love the blazer and the gold trim.

I love your outfit! Especially the peplum. I agree, too old for clubs, too young for other kinds of dancing environments. Where is the middle ground right?

This Anti- Shopper scored on Monday! A black sequined tank dress. It stops right above my knees. Not sure what shoes to wear with it though. Oh.....the price....$17.00 bucks. It fits perfect. Usually the arm holes are too large and I squander countless hours trying to find something to go underneath. Aren't you proud of this shopper hater?
