Hiya and Happy Hump Day!
I have a super easy project for you today! This wasn't my first foray into burlap pillow making (see my burlap sack pillow cover here), but it was the first time I attempted painting burlap, and I have to say, it turned out great!
I pinned this image sometime last year and have admired it ever since. I knew I could create a similar feeling very inexpensively.
First, I chose a font I thought would be bold enough to really stand out (Cooper Std), then I sized it appropriately for my sized pillow forms (20"). I printed my words as outlines so as not to waste ink (Does anyone else hate buying ink cartridges as much as I do? That crap's expensive!).
Then I cut out each letter individually and positioned them on the pillow front.
Next I got out the only supplies I needed: a metallic paint marker, red craft paint, and a small paintbrush (not pictured).
Using the paint marker, trace the letters onto the burlap. Obviously a pencil won't write on burlap and it's hard to get a pen to flow smoothly, but using a paint marker works wonderfully! I used a silver one because that's what I had and it worked out because I could see it on the burlap, but once the letters were filled in, it kind of disappeared. If you have a paint marker the same color as the paint you're using for the letters, even better!
Next, put some scrap paper under the burlap to catch any paint that seeps through the cracks, then fill in the letters with your paint color of choice, in my case: red.
Once you have all the letters painted, remove the scrap sheets from under the burlap while the paint is still wet. If you're worried about paint getting on your table, replace the paper with some fresh sheets. If you wait until the paint dries, you'll have to tear it off of the burlap, which will inevitably leave little scraps of paper behind. (Ask me how I know.) Luckily, I used red scrap paper so it blended right into my letters. Yeah, totally planned that.
After the paint dries, assemble the pillow covers (I used my favorite envelope back method), karate chop them on the sofa and voila!
You have cute, festive pillows that aren't too cheesy but still spread the message of the Christmas season.
Remember last Monday when I mentioned I was doing good and not giving into any of the fantastic Cyber Monday deals? Welllllll, it turns out I wouldn't last much longer and we bought a new rug for the living room! It's supposed to be delivered today so hopefully the next time you see this room, it will be 10x more fabulous! I'm so excited I can hardly stand it! :)
