Dollar Store Door Swags

Hello and Happy Christmas Eve Eve!  I have a fun project to share with you today!  I wasn't quite sure what to call these.  I think they're swags, and they're made of faux garland with Dollar Tree accents, hence Dollar Store Door Swags.  Huzzah!

I picked up this box of Christmas decorations at a yard sale over the summer.  Like it says, it was only $2!

Inside were bows, both the sticky back and the velvet kind, some random crap, and tons and tons of garland!  As you can see, the garland was $2 each at Dollar General and I got the WHOLE BOX for $2.  I love a deal.

Anyway, I stopped by Dollar Tree with these swags in mind, but I wasn't really sure how I was going to make it work, so I just grabbed a bunch of stuff, and ended up not using that bell garland at all.  Of course, anytime I make door decor, I have to make 2, one for each of our french doors.

So here's how I did it.

Take two strands of garland, fold them in half and cut them so you have four equal pieces.  Then fold those pieces in half.

Using twine, wire, floral tape or whatever you have on hand, secure the garland pieces together about 4 inches from the top.  Make sure the loop at the top is large enough for your preferred hanging method.

I used floral tape and wrapped it around a few times then hot glued the end to make it extra secure.

Now the fun part:  embellishing!  I didn't like that cheap looking glittery apple with the even cheaper plastic leaf, so I just cut it off of the beautiful silver bow.

Then I glued the bow on top of the floral tape using a good amount of hot glue.  But then I had a problem:  the center of the bow had a little peg sticking up from where I cut off the apple, so I had to cover it up somehow.

I grabbed some small ribbon from my stash and strung three of the bells together.

I hot glued those to the center of the bow, but it still wasn't very pretty...

...so I took another bell and glued it flat-side down in the center.  Then I hung it up on the gallery wall in my craft room so I could stand back and see if I liked it.  Luckily I did, so it got a little trimmy trim at the bottom to even out all the garland pieces.

There you have it, super simple Dollar Store Door Swags!

If you aren't able to score garland for super cheap at a yard sale and had to pay full retail, you could still make these for $5.50 each!  I love a cheap craft.

I think they look super cool and go well with my silver theme this year.

Best of all, they jingle every time I open the door.  There's nothing more festive than jingle bells!

I love non-traditional door decor.  Don't get me wrong, I think wreaths are da bomb, but it's fun to switch it up every once in a while.

Hiya! Quick question that's entirely off topic. Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My site looks weird when browsing from my apple iphone. I'm trying to find a theme or plugin that might be able to correct this issue.
If you have any recommendations, please share. With thanks!

I'm really enjoying the theme/design of your blog. Do you ever run into any internet browser compatibility problems? A handful of my blog visitors have complained about my website not working correctly in Explorer but looks great in Opera. Do you have any solutions to help fix this problem?

Have you ever considered about including a little bit more than just your
articles? I mean, what you say is important and all. However think of if you added some great pictures or video clips to give your posts
more, "pop"! Your content is excellent but with images and clips, this site could
certainly be one of the most beneficial in its niche.
Amazing blog!

It’s really amazing to have a person like you who showed me the way to make a traditional door decorator tree with pictures. I love the trees and surely go with your suggestion to make them for my home. Do you ever feel foot pain when making the trees? Then, you must need shoes for plantar fasciitis to heel the pain!
