Hi friends! I've been off work this week so I've tried to use the time wisely and get some things crossed off my never-ending to-do list. This project has been in the works for a while, and it's still not finished, but I've made progress, so I thought I'd share!
I have this huge long wall in my craft room. If you've been following along for a while, then you know I got some awesome stuff from IKEA for Christmas and my birthday to help organize all my crafty supplies and make my craft room (a.k.a. the bonus room) a happier place to be! I was in Michaels last week with a gift card and a coupon in hand and came out with a whole bunch of blank canvases. Those, in addition to the Goodwill frames I've been collecting and the few I got from IKEA made for quite the gallery wall. My intention is to cover this whole wall with frames and art and whatever else I can find, but until I collect enough stuff, this is a good start.
I started by tracing all of my frames onto wrapping paper and newspaper which I taped up on the wall with masking tape until I found an arrangement I liked. The red paper is standing in for some 8 x 10 canvases (8 1/2 x 11 is close enough to 8 x 10... I'm not that O.C.D. Although I will admit it bothered me a tad, but not enough to trim them down to size. Ha!).
Before we start, I just want you to know that this room has one small window, so any pictures I take in here inevitably turn out horrible. I've Photoshopped them as best I can, but they're still not great.
I had already hung my "Create" letters when I took these photos, but lemme tell ya, they were a pain in the booty. Why is the A smaller than the other letters you ask? Your guess is as good as mine. They're still cute though. (From HobLob)
One last shot of the "before." The room isn't wide enough for me to take a full shot straight on (boo!) but you get the idea.
Aaaaaand after! (If you have an eagle eye, you'll notice that the arrangement evolved as I started hanging everything. I just went with the flow.
What? It doesn't look like much?
Well, that's because there's nothing in the frames or on the canvases, but don't worry... I'll get there! Eventually...
It took me 3 days, working a few hours each day, to get everything hung. There's more nail holes than I care to count, but I'm pleased as punch that they're all up and semi-level.
Hanging everything was easy compared to the task of filling them, but I did manage to create a little something for two of the small frames (IKEA Ribba 5" x 5").
July 25, 2007 was the day we closed on our house and it officially became ours! It's a special date to us so I thought it only fitting that I include it somewhere.
Yeah, pretty self-explanatory. Why do any of us craft? Because creating something ourselves is cheaper than buying it. Oh, and there's that whole creative outlet thing...
Here are the printables I made in case you'd like to use them!
(Disclaimer: I didn't come up with the "I'm cheap" saying - thanks Pinterest!, and the original mason jar image is from here. Right click and save as to download.)
Have a happy weekend!
