My 9/11 Story

Everyone has one, don't they?  Just like when Kennedy was shot... you remember exactly where you were and what you were doing.  Of course, I wasn't alive when Kennedy was shot, but that's what everyone says.

I was a junior in high school.  It was the end of my first period Spanish class when our assistant principal Mr. Worley came over the intercom and made an announcement that a plane had struck the World Trade Center.  We were all like "What's the World Trade Center?" because we only knew it as the twin towers.  The bell rang soon after and everyone rushed to their next classes where all the teachers had the TVs tuned to the news.  We watched the first commentary where everyone thought it was an accident.  Then the second plane hit.  We knew it was no accident.  We didn't study anything in our classes that day, but we learned something much more important... that no matter your political stance, religion, race or socioeconomic status, we are all Americans.  We band together.  We live in the greatest country in the world.  And no one can take that away from us.

I can't believe it's been 10 years since the tragedy of Tuesday, September 11th, 2001.  My thoughts are with all those who lost loved ones on that day.

We're the same age. I was a junior in my US History class. Made since to experience that lesson in that classroom.

BTW- !!! I am fairly certain I taught at your high school under that principal. Colors are black and gold with a wolf mascot? I think that's so cool to discover someone so "close" in the virtual world.
